My composter was actually a little fuller a week ago but the warmer temperatures have kicked the decomposition a bit into gear. Over the winter it slows down a bit and after several months of (mostly) below-freezing temperatures it’s filled up. Our forecast is for a cold snap leading back to above-freezing daytime temps. I’ll stir this up when the cold snap ends and it thaws out. Last year’s batch of compost went into my new second planter in the fall. The planter is significantly filled with logs from the fallen trees in my yard that I’d left to rot in the yard, and last year’s batch of compost has nearly filled it. I’m looking forward to showing the before/after on this bin this fall when the compost has had a chance to “cook” all summer. The difference in volume will be dramatic.
