I’m stretching it a little, but taking the chance that we’ll be able to plant this year a little ahead of the May two-four. My marigolds, and Gold Medal and Aunt Ruby Yellow tomatoes are now in their damp paper towel with which I’ve always had good luck. My method has been a little more haphazard in past, but when I start them like this in large freezer bags and am on top of transferring them to soil once the seedlings are four or five millimetres long, I can generally cut around the plant matter and just plunk them into starter pots without removing the paper towel.
I’ll chronicle their growth here, probably just with a simple chart showing their above-ground height until they go wild mid-season in the planters.
