New Rideau bridge

On Saturday a new bridge connecting Vincent Massey Park and Carleton University opened and it’s a beaut. I filmed the ride back to my neighbourhood from the park on an absolutely perfect day. I counted myself lucky that from popular Vincent Massey the paths and connections in some of Ottawa’s most scenic spots were actually the most direct route: along the Canal and over the Hartwell Locks and through the Central Experimental Farm. An equally safe alternative would be to get to the locks via the Trillium path and along the Canal.

The Rideau River East pathway to which the bridge connects from the university is a spine route that provides safe access to neighbourhoods like Alta Vista and destinations like the Ottawa Hospital’s General campus and serves as a more direct route to those places than going downtown then heading south along the LRT pathway.

For people in the west end of Ottawa this is a direct connection via the Central Experimental Farm pathway, which in turn connects to neighbourhoods like Britannia. When you start drawing the lines this is quite a nifty bridge.

This video is the last for a while. My gears have become increasingly problematic over the past few months and my bike’s in the shop. There might be some scooter videos on fair-weather days.
