Yesterday was Seedy Saturday and this year the Alta Vista Community Association hosted it just off Smyth Road. I got there via a circuitous journey biking to the LRT station to get to Rideau Centre where I brought my laptop in for service, then bike->LRT again to Lees station where I figured I’d catch a rack-and-roll. When I got there and saw the 25-minute wait for a 55, though, I checked the Transit app and saw that I could get to the venue a little quicker with a rack and roll on the 45 and a short bike ride from the stop on the Hospital campus, so I biked quickly over to Hurdman to catch it and didn’t wait long before the four-minute rack-and-roll ride. I do love the Transit app – it’s a comprehensive and easy-to-search real-time look at what bus is where, and I frequently change plans mid-journey when I see I can shave a few minutes off or reduce a wait.
The event itself was great and there were a lot of familiar faces, especially since the association invited a lot of food sustainability and adjacent organizations. I saw lots of neighbours and work colleagues as well among the steady and large stream of visitors. A hearty congratulations to the AVCA for pulling off their first Seedy Saturday so successfully.
The ride home was easier, though I had to drop into the office. I biked around the hospital and I didn’t realize the Rideau River Pathway East isn’t plowed. It was sheer ice but navigable on studs. Otherwise, it was an unremarkable journey home. I brought home my more powerful desktop computer from the office and had some time this weekend, so my ride video is a little more polished than usual. Enjoy these six minutes of video I don’t capture very often from the General campus area.
